Hello everyone. :)
I'm glad you want to know what some of my other interests & hobbies are.
Enjoy. :)

World Politics:

I'm interested in current events and world politics. When I was still in Germany, I used to watch regulary the following two TV programs, Der Weltspiegel and Das Auslandsjournal. Unfortunately, I cannot receive German television in the USA and to the best of my knowledge there is no similar program on US TV.

Chess:

I like to play chess, but only for interest and fun, and not for competition. In other words, I do not enjoy playing with timers!

Collecting Stamps, Pins, Postcards, & Coins:

I like to collect those. If have some feel free to mail them to me. :)

Mineralogy:

Since my early youth I like to collect minerals. I have by now quite a collection. I started collecting them since they are of value, althrough mainly of aesthetic value. By collecting minerals my interest in chemistry was formed.
A good book about minerals and how to collect and identify them is Minerals by Rubert Hochleitner.

Hiking:

Erin and I, we like to hike. The most fun hike so far was when we were hiking in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. While we were spending the night in our tent outdoors we were afraid that a bear comes to eat us. :)

Traveling:

I like to travel, so far I've visited places in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Ecuador, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxemburg, Panama, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland, The Czech Republic, The Netherlands, The Slovak Republic, The (former) Sovietunion, The United Kingdom, and in The United States. In the former Sovietunion I visited Riga, St. Petersburg (Leningrad), Moskau, Minsk, and Wolgograd. So far, Erin has visited places in Canada, Germany, Luxemburg, Thailand, The Netherlands, and in The United States. Once we have more money, we definitely want to travel more. :)

Archaeology:

I am especially interested in past events that caused the humans living at that time to fashion reliefs such as these:

If you want to know more, there are many more things I can tell you about, or if you want to discuss with me, feel free to email, "dirk_schweitzer at yahoo dot com," me. :)
Can someone please tell me what this Indian God is holding in his raised left and right hand? What are the functions/properties/uses according to ancient mythology of the "round device" in his left hand and the "long device" in his right hand? I guess the "long device" could be a "Khatvanga." Which role did this god play in ancient mythology? Any info is very much appreciated. I took this picture of the Indian God statue in the Dayton Art Institute.

I would also like to know what the function/property/use according to ancient Tibetian mythology of a "Dorje" is. Again, any info is very much appreciated.
