A very good online dictionary.
A very useful online dictionary.
An online dictionary.
A very useful "Japanese <=> English Dictionary". It shows the Japanese terms in romanized Japanese and in Japanese characters. The romanized entries are listed in alphabetical order.
A very good book for learning Japanese Kanji characters is "Pict-O-Graphix" by Michael Rowley. It explains over 1000 characters and how to remember them.
A very good dictionary for the English language is the "Collins Cobuild Dictionary". Even through it is hard to find, it is definitely worth owning it!
A very good dictionary for German <=> English is the "Harper Collins German Unabridged Dictionary". Even through it is heavy, I, as a native speaker of German, recommend it to everyone who is either learning English or German. It has more German words and more detailed explanations then any other German <=> English dictionary I am aware of. It is a very useful tool for me when I communicate with my wife. :)
Others:
My prefered search engine. It is important to note that Google distinguishes between the Umlauten: "a" and "ä", "o" and "ö", and "u" and "ü". So, for example, a search for "Flugel" will only find documents that contain "Flugel" but not documents that contain "Flügel" and a search for "Flügel" will only find documents that contain "Flügel" but not documents that contain "Flugel". There are possibly also other symbols between which Google distinguishes.
The Mischungskreuz (mixture cross) is a very useful tool when one has to prepare diluted (dilution, diluting) acid or base solutions in a chemistry lab. Or, in general life, prepare any 'less concentrated' mixture. Note, that the linked page only works with Netscape, but not with Internet Explorer 5.0 on a Mac with OS 9.1.
