Pictures of Dirk Schweitzer

Hello everyone. :)
I'm glad you want to have a look at some pictures of me.
Enjoy them. :)
With my parents. Aren't I cute? :)
Sampling the smell of flowers at a very tender age.
Girls, don't be surprised if I give you flowers! :)
Playing with my monkey. His name is Pippo.
Girls, you like this boy, don't you?
Coming home from an exhausting day at school.
My brother and me playing, one of my sisters is in the foreground. My people lived in the stone house while my brother's people lived in the sand mound. That's not all! The 'civilized' people in the stone house always found a reason to attack the poor earth dwellers.
Don't worry! I'm not planning to become a politician of a Western country or a dictator.
My brother and me excavating a cave (Totenstein bei Neunhofen).
You see, I was doing Archaeology at an early age.
One of the few pictures that I have from my undergraduate years.
This one was taken in the intro o-chem lab, Fall 1991. I'm just shaking the contents of my flask.
Do you see how much space I am occupying? All of the material on the bench is mine.
Do you see what kind of ballpointpen I was using? :)
Grilling at a party during my undergraduate years.
In Paris, April 1994.
In Versailles, April 1994.
Working in lab at the University of Texas at Austin, September 1994.

Someone ought to replace Atlas! He has to continue with his life. :)
Working in lab at the University of Texas at Austin, May 1995.
While I was working at the Institute for Molecular Biotechnology in Jena, Fall 1995 - Summer 1996.
At the market fountain in Trieste, Italy, October 1995.
It was a work trip so I didn't have much time for sightseeing.
At Castello di Miramare, near Trieste, Italy, October 1995.
It was a work trip so I didn't have much time for sightseeing.
Hiking in the Carmel Mountains in Israel, July 1996.
Harvesting Mangos in the Golan, July 1996.
With 4 friends in Jerusalem, August 1996.
A drawing of Erin and me on the whiteboard in the lab by one of my colleagues, about Fall 1997.
In lab during graduate school, about Spring 1998.
Cleaning glassware, about Spring 1999.
Working on my Schlenkline, about Fall 1999.
With my labmate Henry after attending the Gordon Research Seminar in Bioinorganic Chemistry, Ventura, CA, January 2000.
Working in the glovebox, about Spring 2000. I am just doing a MeOH/Ether filtration as a part of the work-up for the iron persulfide complex. This picture was taken by an official departmental photographer for the new departmental graduate brochure. The photographer took many pictures, surprisingly to me, this picture of me was choosen for the new, that is, now current, departmental graduate brochure. It was surprising because normally, in the USA, pictures of, preferably female, ethnic minorities are choosen for pictures that officially represent organizations, instead of pictures that show white and male human beings. I knew the reason of this unusual decision, even the photographer talked about this unusual decision in public, after I looked at the other pictures that the photographer took. All the other pictures show people standing in front of analytical instruments and smiling into the camera, while this picture of me is the only one that shows someone actually doing chemistry.
Fixing the glovebox, Summer 2000.
In front of my poster, Pacifichem meeting, Hawaii, December 2000.
Writing my thesis, January 2001.
I got this comic once as an add for a magazine.
The text says: "Do you understand why Dirk Schweitzer always knows exactly what is going on in the field?"
Obviously, I know, as can be seen by the climbing sales of my business. ;)
